Currently there are a number of different heat reflective sheets on the market. Most reflective sheets are made of a reflective foil laminated to non woven products, canvas, tarp and rip-stop fabrics. Coated reflective sheets are now also available on the market.

These reflective sheets can be purchased from camping outlets, however most are lacking in quality, design, reflective capability and durability and to heavy.

LAMINATES vs. COATED

Laminated reflective sheets have a high reflective quality opposed to a coated reflective sheet.

Coated reflective sheets do not have the high heat reflectivity qualities of the laminated foil sheets, but the benefit of a coated reflective sheet is the durability and lifespan of the product. However it only gives an approximate 5 degree heat reduction.

A coated reflective sheet is manufactured by means of impregnation of the textile fibres, thus the penetration of the reflective coating is a permanent bond.

Laminated reflective sheets are manufactured by means of lamination of a reflective foil to a canvas base.

Coated reflective sheets cannot de-laminate like the high reflective foils and also perform much better in windy conditions than the laminated reflective foils.

PRACTICAL DESIGN AND SIZES

Most sheets available in the market are still made in impractical sizes and in most cases do not match tent sizes. This is evident in the caravanning community, where one is forced to use these impractical sized sheets over the caravan tent and half way over the caravan roof.

This is mostly not for practical reasons, rather because the sheet is poorly designed and too big to fit over the tent area for which it was intended for.

The main reason these sheets lack quality and design excellence, is due to suppliers releasing a cheap product into the market.
